Wright State assistant coach Will Rey believes the following
skip passes are effective against zone defenses: guard or wing to corner, short corner to wing, wing to wing.
Oklahoma head coach Kelvin Sampson runs a one-minute
shooting drill where players will take a shot, get a rebound, take two dribbles
away from the basket, square up, and shoot again. They must take 15 attempts and make at least 10 shots during this
drill.
Larry Shyatt, Clemson head coach, runs a drill where they
play five-on-five and the offense tries to run as many sets as possible in two
minutes.
Tennessee women’s head coach Pat Summitt defends ball
screens four different ways: switch,
show numbers and step over the top, step back, and slide through.
UT-Chattanooga head coach Mack McCarthy runs a 1-1-3
match-up zone because he wants a zone where he can pressure the offense, vary
his looks, disrupt patterns, and be unpredictable.
Samford head coach Pat Tillette will use the following
tactics to work on his offense: play no
dribble, demand a certain category of shot, and only allow certain players to
shoot.
Former Virginia Commonwealth head coach Sonny Smith taught
three moves in the post: a power move,
a speed move, and a hesitation move.
Will Rey uses the following stacks against a zone
defense: double low, split stack (one
at foul line, one on block), and a triple stack.
Nebraska women’s head coach Paul Sanderford tells his
players to throw what they cannot take back.
Former George Washington head coach Tom Penders prefers to
have two point guards on the floor instead of a point guard and a shooting
guard.
If the ball is above the foul line, Pat Summitt wants her
post defenders to be on the high side of the offensive player. If the ball is below the foul line, Pat
Summitt teaches her post defenders to front.

Regardless of zone offense, Mack McCarthy thinks it is best
if you can reverse the ball to three people.
In his shooting drills, Jimmy Tillette wants screeners to
shoot as well as cutters. He also wants
his players to pass to the shooters.

taught his high post to cut to the low post.
