Panther Basketball

DEVELOP THE DISPOSITION TO DOMINATE EACH POSSESSION

DEFENSIVE CONCEPTS

1.        SVTAMP

·         Stance, Vision, Talk, Anticipation, Move to Position

2.       Influence weak hand catch, pressure ball, run with in outer 1/3.

·         All defenders are on and up the line in stance.

3.       Pressure the ball as much as possible without penetration or fouling.

·         Make the ball uncomfortable with wide, active stance, and ready hands.

4.       Deny passing lanes.

·         Passes up from baseline, head in the lane and one step away from your man.  Passes down, hand in the lane and up the line.

DEFENSIVE OBJECTIVES

1.       Keep the ball out of the lane.

·         Transition, Post, Cutter Catch, Drive, Rebound.  TPDCR.  Don’t be blind on your early help and then have a quick recovery, force the extra pass.  Foul only for profit.

2.       Keep the ball off the top.

·         Run to deny all passes to the top.  Be one step away from the man as your force the catch high.

3.       Ball pressure, shot pressure, no foul.

·         Alter or change vs. block, no rhythm shots.

4.       BOPCRO

·         All five players Block Out to 15 feet and then Pursue the ball, Chin the Rebound, make a safe, quick Outlet.  Trap, umbrella, keep in jail any offensive rebound.

OFFENSIVE OBJECTIVES

1.       Handle the ball with sureness.

·         Breakdown the defense by pushing the ball, hitting the first open man, cuts, screens, drives and communication.

2.       Put the ball in the lane.

·         Transition, Post, Drive, Cutter Catch, Rebound.  TPDCR

3.       Shot discipline.

·         We take the shots we want; not what the defense wants.  We take rhythm shots.  We want 4’s and 3’s (lay-ups, open 3’s, and go to shots.)  4-3-2-1-0

4.       Board coverage

·         3 to glass (2 on 1 weakside), 1 fullback, and 1 halfback every time.

5.       We make more free throws than our opponents attempt.

WE DETERMINE THE OUTCOME OF THE GAME
