In our defensive system, we use a two digit number to call
our defenses.
The first number indicates the level of the defense.
- If the
first digit is a “5”, that indicates full court with all out pressure deny
defense.
- If the
first digit is a “4”, that indicates ¾ court defense.
- If the
first digit is a “3”, that indicates ½ court defense.
- If the
first digit is a “2”, that indicates our home level of defense, which is
played out to just beyond the three point line.
The second number indicates the type of defense.
- A “1”
as the second digit indicates man to man.
- A “2”
as the second digit indicates an even fronted zone.
- A “3”
as the second digit indicates an odd front zone.
- A “6”
as the second digit indicates that we are in an all out switching man to
man defense and switch any time two offensive players come together.
- We do
not have any meaning for “4” or “5” as a second digit and therefore, do
not use them at this time.
Here are some examples of what our typical defensive
calls may be:
- 51=Full
court deny man to man defense.
- 42=2-2-1
¾ court zone press.
- 31=Aggressive
half court man to man defense.
- 26=Aggressive
switching man to man defense at the home level.
